We invited Gilles Peterson (BBC Radio 6 Music/Brownswood/Worldwide Festival) to be an ambassador and also to curate the launch party of the epic WEYA Festival (1000 artists from 100 countries over 10 days in Nottingham!) because of his well earned reputation as a champion of new artists of promise and flair emerging from around the globe. His reputation in the UK and beyond is unparallelled so who else was there to ask?
He selected a number of acts from around the globe to perform live alongside one of his own worldwide DJ sets. These included Ayanna Witter-Johnson, Sulk Station, Flavio Renegado, Soul Buggin’ and Metske.
The venue was Barton’s, an old bus station (a National Heritage site) recently reinvented as a quality music and cultural venue. This one-off event for 1000 people was organised in partnership with our good friend Ste Allan (Dealmaker/Outlaw) and it was a monster of a party, bonding the artists, the performers and the vast army of festival crew together like nothing else could!
Check out some live footage of the wonderful Ayanna Witter-Johnson (UK) and Flavio Renegado (Brasil) from the party…
