I had the honour of playing at Nottingham's legendary and still thoroughly off the radar jazz dancing session, Out To Lunch. Now in its thirteenth year and always on the traditional day for UK jazz dancing a Sunday, I had the opportunity to bring the session to Nottingham Contemporary in 2011 for a special one off session. We were lucky enough to be joined by the Jazzcotech dancers and DJ legend Perry Louis alongside Out To Lunch bossman, DJ Killer Jim. Here is a mix I put together for an earlier Out To Lunch session.
This particular style of Jazz dancing or ‘street jazz dancing’ is actually a UK tradition although it borrows heavily from styles originating from the New Orleans Second Line. As far as I know there are only three regular events with the odd festival appearance throughout the year. This is a unique UK musical tradition, so check one of the regular sessions and check out some of the incredible dancers (and join in!).
