BBE return with the next in their essential Tabansi Gold Series and it’s an unrivalled double hitter of spiritual Igbo highlife from Nigeria. Consisting of two of the only three albums that the enigmatic Victor Chukwu is known to have released, this is joyous music that has remained barely heard until now. Even highlife connoisseurs struggle to recognise Victor’s name and output but 20 years after his death, Uncle Victor Chukwu is here now to bring us a feeling of happiness during this bizarre time of isolation and disconnection.
‘Akalaka’ and ‘The Power’ were both recorded around 1977-79 at the Tabansi Studios and produced by Chief Tabansi himself and stand as exhilarating examples of the pride and dignity of Igbo culture and their own unique progression of the original Ghanaian highlife sound.
We are mightily pleased to share with you the album premiere of the two LPs for your pleasure!
