Poland’s hot new jazz sensation, sneaky jesus, released a superb album of powerful, open-minded, stylistically diverse jazz tunes last year on Shapes Of Rhythm entitled ‘For Joseph Riddle’. For an unknown young band, they surpassed expectations, rapidly selling out the vinyl and attracting the interests and ears of many connoisseurs who know the glorious wealth of Polish jazz past and present.
In celebration of the album’s release, Shapes Of Rhythm handed out the stems to a few producers they admired and here we are blessed to host the premiere of the third remix to be announced after killer re-imaginings from Chris Menist (under his Awkward Corners handle) and Poison Zcora (TIFF Joints’ boss).
sneaky jesus’ own drummer Filip Baczyński brings the change here under the nom de plume Groove Professor and groove is the right term. Stripping the drums down to a hard hip hop slam and grabbing a horn refrain from the original track as the main hook, he dubs and delays ‘Bugs’ into a heavy, brooding beast that sounds not unlike La Funk Mob or Major Force on peak Mo’ Wax. Swinging live drums and extra horns layer and propel the intensity forward, jazzy dread in full effect.
