On the eve of the release of Empanadas Ilegales’ second album of swaggering psychedelic cumbia and salsa - ‘Creepy Mambo’, we are hyped to premiere an exclusive single mix of one of the standout tracks on the record - ‘Luna Modular’!

The band may be based in Vancouver, BC but the six members aren’t just playing dress up with their tropical mayhem. Hailing between them from Peru, Ecuador, Brazil, Spain/Argentina, Colombia and Canada, the authenticity of their roots matches the sound they create, which is a trippy soup of psyche, surf, cumbia and raw salsa that sits easily alongside more well known practitioners such as Meridian Brothers, Romperayo and Conjunto Papa Upa. ‘Luna Modular’ is a classy slice of driving instrumental salsa-cumbia with a catchy as hell main riff that worms its way into your core. Add in some killer sax, a rhythm section that knows its syncopated worth and topped off with the lysergic surf-buzz of the guitars, we get a straight up dancefloor burner for the heads that know!
