We are delighted to reveal the dreamy second ‘single’ from Awkward Corners’ forthcoming album ‘Amateur Dramatics’ which will be released on Shapes Of Rhythm on August 20th. The brainchild of Chris Menist, who’s CV includes being the percussionist for The Paradise Bangkok Molam International Band, compiler for labels such as Soundway and Finders Keepers and resident NTS DJ, Awkward Corners has become a collaborative project of great depth. His last album heavily featured the brilliant Sarathy Korwar and on this, his latest and probably most jazzy affair, sees collaborations with the equally stellar Tamar Osborn (Collocutor, Maisha), as well as bassist David Leahy and on this particular track, the celestial vocals of Kitty Whitelaw.
‘Marshland Lullaby’ does exactly what the title suggests. A deliberately relaxed evocation led by Leahy’s circulating double bass and Chris’ subtle electro-acoustic percussion with spacey churchlike synths and Kitty Whitelaw’s gorgeously soothing voice completing this lullaby for adults. Dread and wonder combine to make a heady nightcap indeed…
