Alex Attias is a DJ and producer who has been on our our radar since the mid/late 90s from his alien jazz workouts as Bel-Air Project and his emergence as a respected contributor in London’s ‘bruk’ scene to his hometown Lillygood parties that he’s been running with his brother Stephane in Lausanne in Switzerland. Alongside his own recharged Visions label, Lillygood has also become a label and radio show and this new compilation is his second for BBE that gives us a taste of what a Lillyfgood party might just sound like.
This is ‘grown up’ dance music - through a rig you’re going to get your swerve on but one can easily enjoy this at home, wine and cheese (or vegan option) at hand. This instalment is a collection of slick, sophisticated productions from some well known heads like soulful house legends Louie Vega and Peven Everett, Cuban diva Daymé Arocena and Atjazz’s Martin Iveson with even jazz god Pharaoh Sanders letting rip on the standout David Murray & The Gwo-Ka Masters track ‘Gwotet (Alex Attias Edit)’.
Less well known artists hold their own in such vaunted company with jazz musician Mausiki Scales’ live sounding ‘Freedom Flight’ a solid example of the multilayered grooves on display here. Most of the tracks have been delicately edited for dancefloor effect and with the exception of a couple of slower boogie numbers, all the tunes here are for the dance, so dance we shall.
If you love your dance music deep, intricate, jazzy and extremely well-produced, you probably need this…
